As much as we adore crisp, white looks in our studio, sometimes you just need a little edge. Sweet and soft has it’s place, but occasionally, or maybe all the time for some of us!, we want something more. There’s something about adding a tiny bit of danger and excitement to a thing that really spices it up, and the same holds true for dark & edgy boudoir photography!
One of our favorite looks involves doing just that – adding a little edge, and a little spice! We sometimes hear from women that they want to do a “dark, edgy” theme, but that it “isn’t really who they are normally”, so they aren’t sure where to start. We help them out every time, because we totally get wanting to unleash your inner Dark Angel on the world.
Even if it’s not your normal go-to look, don’t discredit something! You never know what you may be able to pull off! If you’re feeling confident and powerful and gorgeous, we’re sure you’re going to see that on camera – so sit back, feel yourself, and let Olin do the work for you.
The Dark & Edgy Boudoir Look
Key components of a dark and edgy boudoir look are pretty simple. Dark colors (if black is too harsh for your skin tone, try a dark grey, or even a wine burgundy color!) work well, as do straps on the outfit – especially ones that cross over your body in an almost restrictive type of way. Lace is a sexy way to add a delicate touch to the edgy look you’ve got going on, and sometimes the balance of delicate and danger can be really appealing!
Tall boots or sexy heels really add a lot of oomph to the look! We also suggest adding something that feels a little dangerous, like a leather jacket, or a choker. Something that makes you feel like the beautiful badass we know you are!
For hair, a lot of volume will do the trick. Alternatively, you could go for a more sleek ponytail look! With your make-up, you can also go as heavy – or as light – as you feel comfortable. While a gorgeous smokey eye may really set this look off, you could also rock a more natural or nude look, and still be just as beautiful!
As with any style, it’s important to do what feels good for yourself. If you have any questions, let Olin help!
